TV9 Live is a private television station in Malaysia that focuses on Malay viewers, teenagers, and children from all backgrounds. Its programs consist of entertainment and educational elements. The television station is wholly owned by Media Prima Berhad.
TV9, formerly known as Channel 9, started operating in September 2003. The channel focused on Chinese, English, and Indonesian language programs. Chinese language programs were broadcast from 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Malay programs took over the airtime from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. This was followed by English language programs from 9:30 pm to midnight. In May 2004, Anaza Sdn Bhd, the owner of THR.fm, acquired majority ownership from Medanmas Sdn Bhd. Chinese language programs were broadcast every Monday-Thursday from 10:00 pm to 12:30 am, starting with the program “Zhong Hua Shi Jie.” English language programs were only broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, starting with the program “Treats.”
On January 1, 2005, Channel 9 announced that it would cease operations on that day. After being purchased by Media Prima, the largest media company in Malaysia, Channel 9 was renamed TV9, and Bukhari Che Muda was appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer. Starting on December 28, 2006, Astro customers could watch through channel number 22.
